With its rhythmic spiral staircase, this shield offers protection, guarding every space. This piece is a perfect example of how I love combining welding and painting. The process itself feels like a dance between control and surprise, culminating in a beautiful Guarding Cadence. During the welding process, the hood limits my view so that I am not able to see my piece as a whole. So, every time I take it off, there’s this exciting moment of discovery. The heat shapes the steel in unexpected ways, giving the surface its unique character. This particular piece is both bold and refined, with the black paint enhancing the texture created by the welding. It’s a project that stays exciting from start to finish!
